Short Take review: A short review of a film with potential discussion points

Summary: Based on the book "In My Hands" and the Broadway stage production that depicts the accounts of Irena Gut (Sophie Nélisse). During World War Two, the young nurse risked her life and reputation to save twelve Jews in German-occupied Poland. As they sought creative ways of harbouring these souls from the Nazis, she put her employer (Dougray Scott) in jeopardy since he was a high-ranking officer in the German army. With the Gestapo breathing down their necks during the invasion of the Russian forces, they must determine how to help the persecuted humans.

Review: Unfortunately, this is a familiar tale from this time in human history. Yet, Irena Gut's story is one worth discovering as a reminder of how we are meant to treat our neighbours. The horrors are real, and the sacrifice this woman made was depicted convincingly by Sophie Nélisse and Dougray Scott. For many, this is a narrative that has been displayed on screen throughout the years. Despite the audience's awareness of these events, this is one worth experiencing. Irena's Vow is an essential cautionary memorial for this generation to keep from repeating this portion of yesteryear.

REEL DIALOGUE: Crimes against humanity

Slavery, mass murder, genocide, infidelity, greed … All of these acts against humanity are addressed in Irena Gut's story.

Yet, the question that comes to mind is, 'How can this evil happen in our world?'

A question that has plagued humanity throughout history. Fortunately, the Bible answers this question and provides a solution. The problem can be found in Genesis 3, and the answer comes in the middle of the Bible in the four biographies of Jesus.

As people watch their newsfeeds and ponder what is happening in this world, today might be a good day to grab a Bible and discover the answers.
