What's your greatest fear?
I was watching an episode of The Simpsons recently, where Grandpa Simpson challenged Homer to guess what his biggest fear is.
Homer responded by saying: cocktail olives and fascism.
Grandpa then says, "Well, everyone's afraid of those..."
It's an amusing interaction; but it did make me consider—well, what is my greatest fear?
Well, my greatest fear is much more serious than either of those. My greatest fear is death.
I have at times, laid awake at night worrying that when I die, that's it. The end.
Yet, I am comforted by the words Jesus speaks in John 11, where He says,
"I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in Me will never die."
This promise is balm to my soul—knowing that Jesus overcomes my greatest fear.
