There was a bushfire near our holiday Airbnb this summer
It swept through the beachside bush and ruined a lot of holiday plans
It smoked and smouldered and just when you thought it was out It would flare up again. The firies hung around for days
Too long - I thought - this thing’s done
But they knew better than I
The daytime sun hid The orange glow that was only visible at night
The Bible says sin burns like fire
Don’t turn your back on it Even if you think it’s out
And it’s just smoke left And you’re safe from its flames
Jesus knows better than us He came to extinguish the flames of sin
Not just manage the smoke He sticks around to complete the job
