What are the implications of being a post-Christian culture?

For centuries, the Western world has assumed Christendom. Why is this fading away? What are the implications for Christians in the 21^st century? The book of Daniel in the Old Testament has much wisdom on this issue and a proper understanding of the effects of Christendom may change our attitude to its disappearance.
