A Christmas Carol

A story of redemption
Topics

I recently watched the award-winning Broadway adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic story, A Christmas Carol.

It was a superb show and brilliantly captured the essence of the original story—which is a powerful story of redemption—that a miserly, selfish Ebeneezer Scrooge overcame the mistakes of the past, and is turned to change and to instead be generous and to love others, by the power of Christmas.

It's a story of redemption.

Yet, underlying this wonderful tale is an even more powerful redemption story:

for the true, transformative power of Christmas comes through the coming of Jesus Christ, who was born to "save us all from Satan's power when we were gone astray",

as described by the famous Christmas carol, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, the carol quoted in Charles Dickens' book.

For in Jesus Christ comes redemption for anyone—even selfish misers like Ebeneezer Scrooge—true tidings of comfort and joy.
