Christianity is held by many today to be at odds with social progress, and the enemy of mainstream values like justice, freedom and equality. Christopher Watkin in his recent Cambridge Paper ‘Are Christianity & Society in Conflict?’ raises this question and notes that ‘In an age cynical of ideals such as public service and integrity, freedom remains one of the few ideas that resonate widely across society’.
