David Attenborough tells the story of working in the control room of the BBC2 watching pictures being sent back to earth from the Apollo 8 Mission. Three and a half hours into the flight Jim Lovell [one of the crew members] spoke his thoughts to NASA: ‘Well, I can see the entire Earth now out of the centre window’. They were stunned. The pictures from Apollo 8 had transformed the mindset of the population of the world. What if there was another moment in history which really was revolutionary, but in a surprising, deep and lasting way?
