What has Christianity ever done for us?
Well, many critics of the Christian faith have suggested that the answer to this is: nothing very positive.
Indeed, they claim Christianity has been a negative force in the world and that we’d all be better off if the Christian faith had never been established.
Yet, according to some historians and philosophers the Christian faith has in fact provided the foundation, and impetus for many of the values, institutions and things which we cherish and value today.
So perhaps we could answer the question in a slightly Monty Python way…
'All right, but apart from freedom, forgiveness, charities, better health, hospitals, equality of women, humility, education, universities, science, human rights, liberal democracy and hope, what has Christianity ever done for us?'
