Looking back at 10 years of motion pictures from A24, the trajectory of being the ultimate champion of independent cinema was not always obvious. The studio’s first venture, A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III (2013), is a movie that not even the most thorough cinephiles would quickly recognise. A24 rebounded and grew its brand through independent touchstones in the early to mid 2010’s. Touchstones include; Room, Enemy, Under the Skin, The Rover, Ex Machina, just to name a few
Early in the studio's life, while acting primarily as a film distributor. They multiplied to a status that raised the backs of frequent film nerds out of their chairs when the iconic black and white “A24” appeared at the beginning of a new trailer. This recognition and acclaim quickly became more mainstream with Moonlight's Academy Award for Best Picture in 2017.
Even financial milestones have been achieved with Everything Everywhere All at Once grossing over the $100 million mark at the worldwide box office (much to the dismay of our much beloved Russ Matthews). All this to be said, A24 has given much to the community that cherishes the medium.
