Science communicator Neil deGrasse Tyson once tweeted: The Universe is blind to our sorrows and indifferent to our pains. Have a nice day!
Indeed if there is no god, then this is true, the universe just doesn’t care if you suffer.
This is a somewhat bleak way of viewing the world and hardly a reason to have a nice day.
Yet, the Christian story is very different. For the Bible claims there is a God who promises to be with us through life’s darkest valleys, who is aware of our sorrows and feels our pain.
In fact his Son Jesus, loved us so much he died for us to offer a future free from pain.
Perhaps this is a better reason to have a nice day.
